IOTA Case Study Workshop on Advanced Transfer Pricing Issues

On 29–30 April 2026, IOTA successfully held the Case Study Workshop on Advanced Transfer Pricing Issues in Budapest, Hungary, bringing together 37 tax officials from across the IOTA membership.

In today’s increasingly globalised business environment, transfer pricing remains a key area of focus for tax administrations, as controlled transactions become more complex and often span multiple jurisdictions. Against this backdrop, the Workshop provided a valuable platform for participants to exchange practical experiences, strengthen their understanding of advanced transfer pricing issues, and explore effective approaches to tackling complex audit cases.

The two-day Workshop featured four in-depth case studies presented by IOTA members from Lithuania, Finland, Belgium, and Switzerland, combining plenary sessions with interactive group discussions to enhance peer-to-peer learning.

On the first day, Jurgita Staniulienė from Lithuania and Tiia Granfors from Finland delivered insightful presentations on advanced transfer pricing challenges involving complex controlled transactions. Their contributions highlighted practical audit approaches, risk assessment methodologies, and the evolving nature of transfer pricing risks faced by tax administrations.

The second day continued with contributions from Jean-Sébastien Noville of Belgium and Jakob Lanz of Switzerland, who explored issues related to cross-border transactions, comparability analysis, and the consistent application of transfer pricing rules. Participants actively engaged in discussions, sharing national practices and identifying common challenges and potential solutions to enhance both administrative efficiency and tax certainty.

Throughout the Workshop, the interactive format enabled participants to exchange knowledge, compare approaches, and deepen their practical understanding of advanced transfer pricing issues across different economic sectors and transaction types.

IOTA extends its sincere thanks to all speakers and participants for their valuable contributions and looks forward to welcoming members to future events. All materials and presentations are now accessible online via the event's webpage. The Workshop was expertly facilitated by IOTA International Taxation Experts Alexandros Roukalis and Ivana Donchevska, who guided the discussions and ensured a dynamic and collaborative learning environment.
